BRC (British Retail Consortium) Auditing

According to the BRC's Global Standard for Food Safety and EU General Product Safety Directive, retailers have a legal responsibility for their own private brands and products. Most of the UK and Scandinavian retailers will only consider doing business with suppliers who have gained certification to the appropriate BRC Global Standard. To meet buys’ requirements, it is important for manufacturers to be BRC Global Standards Certified Suppliers.

The British Retail Consortium (BRC) is the lead trade association representing the whole range of retailers, from multinational chain retailers, the large multiples and department stores to town stores and virtual stores, covering a wide range of products. In 1998 the British Retail Consortium (BRC), responding to industry needs, developed and introduced the BRC Food Technical Standard to be used to evaluate manufacturers of retailers own brand food products.
